Existential angst - teen poems
These were written in a dark period in 1996 after I had dropped my first university degree, moved interstate, had just been through a really rough breakup, and was hanging out in IRC channels. Full of teenage existential angst.

a crow was there, perched in the tree in the middle of the storm
unmoving, unconcered the crow just stayed there
even though the tree was being thrown violently around by the wind
i feel like the tree, being torn into a million pieces
though i wish i was the crow, indifferent to the storm raging around me

confusion reigns.... i am lost
in pain.... where is the truth
how can i desire understanding
when i can't understand myself
tears fall, hidden by darkness
sighing, silenced by blackness
uncertain thoughts spiral down
inexorably, to unconcsiousness

It can be very dangerous, to give fully
All that the heart can offer.
You can be torn apart,
Or you can recieve equally,
A gift as precious as the one you give.

eyes, watching me carefully, indecipherably
heart, soul and mind weaving a nervous dance
thoughts, deep, unsettling, hopeful yet unspoken
dreams, longing to break the realms of consciousness
reality, where dreams are painfully, desperately clung to
in the hope they might one day be

Their away message is:
heard a ditty somewhere... -
If you're gothic and you know it
Say you're not.
If you're gothic and you know it
Say you're not
If you're gothic and you know it
And you really want to show it
If you're gothic and you know it
Say you're not!
